He sits at the top of both the CardPlayer Magazine and Global Poker Index POY standings
Jesse Lonis is leading the charge in the 2025 Player of the Year (POY) races after a standout performance at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). His impressive results have solidified his position at the top of both the CardPlayer Magazine and Global Poker Index (GPI) POY standings, marking one of the best seasons of his career.
Before the WSOP kicked off, Lonis held a narrow lead in the CardPlayer POY race. However, his performance over the summer pushed him further ahead. A major highlight was his victory at the 2025 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series $100,000 No Limit Hold’em event, where he earned nearly $3.5 million and added 1,680 points to his POY tally.
Additionally, Lonis claimed two more wins in Las Vegas, including a victory at the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Eight Max tournament at the Wynn Summer Classic and a $688,642 payday at the ARIA High Roller Series. These victories helped increase his point lead significantly, with Lonis now holding 7,679 points in the CardPlayer rankings, well ahead of Alex Foxen, who sits in second with 6,448 points.
Meanwhile, in the GPI POY rankings, Lonis also holds the top spot with 4,210.33 points, leading Artur Martirosian by a slim 340-point margin. Alex Foxen, who is closely trailing in third, continues to push for the top spot. The GPI race counts only a player’s best 13 finishes of the year, and with several major tournaments still on the horizon, these rankings are expected to shift as players aim to secure their place in the standings.
The second half of the 2025 tournament season is set to be highly competitive. Major events such as the PokerGO Tour’s PGT Bounty Series and the World Poker Tour’s Bangkok stop in August, along with the European Poker Tour in Barcelona, are expected to draw in top players. For those like Lonis, the hard work is far from over, and the fight for the POY title is just beginning.
