The WSOP is wrapping up a stop in London, which proved big for the German pro
The £3,300 ($4,205) buy-in No-Limit Hold ’Em main event at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) International Super Circuit London drew 910 players across four starting flights, which was narrowed down after three more days to eventual champion Tobias Schwecht of Germany. He won his first WSOPC gold ring and the top prize of £480,000 ($609,600) for the victory.
It was Schwecht’s biggest live tournament score, breaking his record $254,000 earnings at the Triton London series held at the same venue a week ago. He has now surpassed more than $2 million in career live earnings.
The event featured a £3,000,000 ($3,822,870) guarantee, with the top 136 players finishing in the money. Toby Lewis, who finished seventh at the recent WSOP Main Event, was the first to bust after final table play began. He earned $38,100 in ninth place to take his career live earnings over the $9.9 million mark.
David Miscikowski was sent to the rail in eighth place with $45,720. Catalin Pop finished seventh after being knocked out by Kattapong Thanarattrakult for $57,150. Schwecht eliminated bracelet winner Christian Rudolph in sixth for $76,200, and Philip Ward finished fifth for $114,300.
Ravi Sheth finished in fourth place ($177,800), and 2023 WSOP ‘millionaire maker’ winner Pavel Plesuv finished in third place ($266,700) to put his career earnings at $7.9 million. Finally, Thanarattrakul entered heads-up with almost twice his opponent’s chips, but Schwecht would start to pull away after hitting a full house to make things even.
Schwecht limped with K-H, 5H after Thanarattrakul raised from the big blind with JS, JC. Thanarattrakul then called, with Schwecht pairing up his king on the board to end the event. Thanarattrakul won $387,350 as runner-up, increasing his career earnings to nearly $5 million.
