Stephen Song captures another WSOP Circuit win

The long-time poker player moves up on the WSOP Circuit leaderboard with his latest victory

Stephen Song continues his impressive accomplishments on the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC). The 28-year-old Greenwich, Connecticut native recently won his fourth WSOP Circuit ring at the 2023 WSOPC Grand Victoria Casino $1,700 buy-in no-limit hold ’em main event, outlasting 652 players to take the $183,508 first-place prize.

The event ran from November 16-20 at the Grand Victoria Casino in Elgin, Illinois, and held a $987,780 prize pool that was paid to the top 80 finishers. On the final day, Song would knock out the first player, Svetlozar Momtchilov (5th for $46,748), with pocket queens against his J-9 suited. Lee Rzentkowski would then win a big pot with pocket queens to beat Timothy Mulroy’s (4th for $62,039) pocket fives.

“It’s actually been on my bucket list for a while, actually, to win specifically a [WSOP] Circuit main event. I have played a lot of these and gotten close a few times but never won one of these before,” Song said to Poker.org following his victory. Song is now within the top 200 in the POY race standings presented by Global Poker with 2,064 total points and almost $434,000 in POY earnings.

Two-time bracelet winner Tom Koral (3rd for $83,365) was the next to go home after his J-10 couldn’t catch up to Rzentkowski’s pocket kings after flopping an open-ended straight draw. The chips were all in on the final hand, with the board showing 7-C, 6-C, 2-C, 5-S, K-D. Song’s 9-H, 8-C gave him a straight to beat the two pair of Rzentkowski (2nd for $113,415).
