The WSOP bracelet winner is accused of providing false betting tips to bettors for money

Cory Zeidman, a professional poker player and World Series of Poker bracelet winner, has pleaded guilty to charges related to a long-running sports betting fraud scheme. This is another familiar face in the poker industry facing legal trouble for practices similar to these.

Federal authorities revealed that Zeidman misled bettors in New York and Florida by falsely claiming to have insider knowledge about sporting events. The scheme, which operated from 2006 to 2020, generated millions of dollars by exploiting unsuspecting clients.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, Zeidman and his co-conspirators lured customers with promises of exclusive betting advice, allegedly based on nonpublic injury details, compromised referees, and rigged games. The operation relied on national radio ads using fictitious names like “Gordon Howard Global” and “Ray Palmer Group” to attract clients. Once individuals reached out, they were pressured into paying for supposed privileged information, which was entirely fabricated.

Charles Walker, a Homeland Security agent in New York, described the operation as one built on deception, with Zeidman profiting from lies and aggressive sales tactics. The indictment also highlighted claims that the group’s information came from insiders, such as college doctors or TV executives, adding a layer of credibility to the scam.

Zeidman admitted to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, acknowledging his role in defrauding bettors who sought his advice. U.S. Attorney Breon Peace called the scheme a calculated ploy to exploit victims with promises of an unfair advantage in sports betting.

Individuals affected by this fraudulent operation are encouraged to contact Homeland Security Investigations. While Zeidman is recognized in the poker world for his 2012 World Series of Poker victory, this guilty plea marks a significant fall from grace for the professional player.
