The authorities think they already have a lead on the perpetrators
A poker player in Houston was robbed of his winnings shortly after leaving a card room and returning to his hotel. Police say the incident took place on August 1 in the city’s Galleria area, a busy hub of shopping, business, and nightlife.
According to investigators, the victim had taken part in a poker game earlier that night and won a sizable amount of money. Around 5:40 AM, he returned to the DoubleTree Hotel. Surveillance footage shows him standing near the elevator while on his phone when two suspects entered the lobby. The pair had arrived in a white sedan, and authorities believe they had followed the man from the poker room, located just two miles away.
Video evidence shows one suspect striking the victim in the head before the second joined in, knocking him to the ground. The two then stole his wallet and quickly left the hotel, returning to the waiting car on the right side. A third person appeared to be behind the wheel, helping the group flee the scene.
Houston police have not released the suspects’ identities but confirmed that they are reviewing the surveillance video as part of the ongoing investigation. Officers believe the robbery was premeditated, with the attackers targeting the man after observing his winnings at the card room.
The victim, who has not been named publicly, was shaken but survived the assault. His exact poker earnings that night have not been disclosed. Authorities have emphasized that people leaving gaming establishments should remain alert to the possibility of being followed, particularly after winning large amounts of cash.
