Nobody was hurt during the unprovoked attack by Jon Letzkus

Police have apprehended a poker player who was connected to a Sunday morning shooting near the Las Vegas Strip. Jon Letzkus, 45, was arrested for allegedly firing a weapon from a balcony of the MGM Signature Towers at roughly 6 AM. No one was hurt in the shooting, but the famous tourist area was shut down temporarily to guarantee public safety.

A section from the south end of the Strip was reopened nearly five hours after the suspect was arrested. It’s still unclear what the motive was for the shooting. Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) first sent out a tweet asking citizens to help in locating Letzkus, who was arrested after only a few hours.

While there were no injuries or deaths resulting from the early morning shooting on New Year’s Eve, occurrences like this always remind the public of the October 1, 2017, incident where deranged video poker player Stephen Paddock killed dozens of innocent concertgoers while firing from inside his Mandalay Bay suite.

Letzkus has more than $14,000 in live poker winnings on The Hendon Mob, with his most recent cash being a win in Lincoln City, California for $4,847 in the $160 buy-in PacWest Poker Classic Omaha hi-lo tournament. The accused shooter also has four small World Series of Poker (WSOP) cashes from 2019 to 2020, with two online at WSOP.com.

Metro Deputy Chief Dori Koren conveyed during a press conference on Sunday that he believes Letzkus used a single handgun in the act.
