The third time’s the charm for Tuyen Dieu as he scores $287,230 payday
Tuyen Dieu may not have had much tournament experience going into the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) stop at Harrah’s Cherokee, but that didn’t stop him from walking away with the biggest win of the series. Competing in only his third-ever event, Dieu captured the $1,700 Main Event title and a payout of $287,230.
The 2024/2025 WSOPC event in Cherokee drew 1,224 entries for its Main Event, generating a prize pool of just over $1.85 million. While the turnout was smaller than the 1,710 entries from the previous edition, it still attracted a tough field and featured several familiar names. Dieu entered the final table sitting seventh in chips, making his path to the title even more impressive.
He worked his way through the remaining contenders and eventually found himself heads-up against Toby Boas. The final hand saw Dieu improve his pocket aces to a full house when an ace landed on the turn. Boas, holding trip tens, couldn’t catch up, and the two players shook hands before Boas collected $191,474 for second place.
After clinching the win, an elated Dieu told WSOP staff, “I’m a champion now. Here we go, I’m rich! Finally, I’m rich!”
The Harrah’s Cherokee stop wrapped up after twelve days of action, with 18 gold rings handed out and nearly $6.8 million in prize money awarded. Other big stories included Matthew Higgins adding his eighth ring in the $400 Mini-Main Event and Gregory Secord claiming his first-ever live tournament cash and win in the same series.
The WSOPC season is nearing its close, with only two more stops left—Commerce Casino and Caesars Southern Indiana. The $1 million Tournament of Champions is also around the corner, with all 2024/2025 ring winners set to receive invites.
