The Poker Hall of Famer is already committed to the $1M buy-in WPT event
Poker fans have even more reason to get excited about the upcoming World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship this December at Wynn Las Vegas. WPT ambassador Phil Ivey has been verified as the first player to enter the $1,000,000 buy-in Big One for One Drop, where the Poker Hall of Famer will sit down against some of the world’s best high-stakes players.
Ivey finished three spots outside the money in the last Big One for One Drop in 2018 and hopes to increase his $4.4 million in WPT lifetime earnings. Ivey said in a press release, “The Big One is what high stakes is all about. Everyone’s game elevates when they play in the biggest buy-in event in WPT history.”
The 2023 Big One for One Drop runs from December 18-20 at the Wynn’s WPT World Championship festival in Las Vegas, featuring the lowest rake ever offered, with 6% of each entry donated to the One Drop Foundation “to continue their mission of ensuring sustainable access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene for communities facing extreme challenges, and one percent will be held as the house fee.”
With the WPT World Championship on the horizon, fans have reason to be excited about The Big One. The $10,400 buy-in Main Event will surely be one of 2023’s biggest, with its record-breaking $40 million guarantee.
“After a five-year hiatus, it seems the grounds have never been more fertile for the Big One; it is clear it has been missed,” said One Drop Foundation Chief Marketing and Events Officer Alexandre Meunier.
Ivey signed on as a WPT ambassador last November and played in a Premier Meet-Up game against legends Patrik Antonius and the late Doyle Brunson at last year’s WPT World Championship.
