Phil Ivey comes up short in Triton Poker London event

Ivey can’t hold on against Espen Jorstad in the Mystery Bounty event

Espen Jorstad emerged victorious in the $40,000 Mystery Bounty event at the Triton Poker London series in a field of 133 players. The 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event winner defeated some tough competition on his way to the title, including his heads-up opponent, Phil Ivey.

Jorstad won $639,000 plus whatever bounties he wins on Monday. It’s his first live tournament victory since winning the 2022 WSOP Main Event. The Mystery Bounty tournament final table included three poker legends: Jorstad, Ivey, and Stephen Chidwick. It’ll be hard to find more prominent names in the final three at any tournament. After his victory, the 2022 world champion said, “The three-way was the craziest three-way I’ve ever played.”

Poker Hall of Famer Ivey was in the chip lead when heads-up play started, with neither player having more than 28 big blinds. Jorstad quickly moved into the lead and went all-in on the final hand with KD, JS against KH 2H preflop. The better hand won, with Jorstad taking his first Triton win. Ivey fell just short of his fifth Triton title.

Ivey received $434,000 as runner-up, adding to his more than $39 million in lifetime live tournament cashes. Jorstad is Norway’s all-time money winner, surpassing $11.5 million in cashes.

The mystery bounty envelopes will be drawn with the $400,000 top prize to be awarded to one lucky player on Monday. The Triton London $50,000 No-Limit Hold ’em 8-Handed tournament began on Sunday with 112 players, with 42 advancing to Day 2. Ignacio Moron Chavero was the chip leader after Day 1, just ahead of 2023 WSOP bracelet winner Leon Sturm.
