Ivey shows that his recent Triton victory wasn’t a fluke
Phil Ivey finished his 2023 Triton Poker London experience with another win, his second of the series, in the $25,000 Short Deck Ante for the $280,500 first-place prize. Ivey collected $1,007,000 for winning the $60,000 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo earlier in the series. The 10-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner was far from being finished as he wrapped up the series with his fifth career win in a Triton short deck event.
Danny Tang held the chip lead coming into the final table with 145 antes, with Ivey’s 75 antes being good for second place. Tang would play well at the final table but couldn’t survive against Poker Hall of Famer Ivey.
With 31 entrants to the tournament and a prize pool of $825,000, Eng Ewe was the first to bust among the six final table players, the only ones who cashed in this event, to take home $57,800. The next three to be eliminated were Thai Ha (fifth for $74,200), Daniel Dvoress (fourth for $94,900), and Stephen Chidwick (third for $193,800), leaving just two players remaining.
Ivey had a 7-1 chip advantage by the time heads-up play started and took little time to take down his opponent and the $280,500 first-place prize, with Tang winning $193,800 for finishing second. It was Ivey’s second title of the series in addition to his second and sixth-place finishes.
According to the Hendon Mob, Ivey has won in nearly every major poker series (WSOP, Triton, WPT), with over $40.7 million in lifetime live tournament winnings in his over 20-year career.
Another all-time great, Jason Koon, wrapped his series with two wins in the $60,000 Short Deck last Thursday for $828,000 and the $60,000 No-Limit Hold’em 7-Handed event for $1,570,000.
