The poker pro ran into some bad luck lately but found a way to get back on track
Phil Ivey went over the $40 million in lifetime live tournament winnings this past Sunday with his win at Triton Poker London in the $60,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold’ Em Turbo event. It was Ivey’s fourth Triton win, as he took home $1,007,000 while overcoming the field of 61 entrants.
After his mediocre WSOP performance, the Poker Hall of Famer continues his summer with this big win and two other cashes across the pond. This includes his second-place finish at last week’s $20,000 Mystery Bounty.
Final table action began as PokerGO founder Cary Katz sent home Greenwood in ninth place ($104,000) after hitting a flush, then proceeded to eliminate Wai Yong for eighth place ($137,200) and Tan Xuan, who finished seventh ($175,700) with pocket aces.
Ivey regained the chip lead when his pocket jacks busted Biao Ding in sixth place ($223,200), and then Petrangelo caught a flush on the river to send Ponakovs to the rail in fifth place ($285,500). The next to leave would be Rodrigo Selouan, as Ivey’s pocket jacks sent home Rodrigo Selouan, holding ace-rag to finish fourth for $360,000.
The European high-roller event would come down to three Americans, with Nick Petrangelo having a great chance to double through Ivey with a bigger ace but settle for third place and $468,900. Ivey held a 3-1 chip advantage to start heads-up play.
Katz would go all-in with A-H, K-C against Q-D, 7-H, but two queens on the flop would end his tournament, as he took home $715,000 as runner-up. Ivey would claim the $1,007,000 first-place prize for his first live tournament win since last September and 11th seven-figure live tournament score.
