Shipping the $1,000 Mini Main Event put the controversial Czech player on top
Martin Kabrhel has officially taken over the top spot in the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Player of the Year race after a massive victory in the $1,000 Mini Main Event. The Czech poker pro captured his fourth career WSOP bracelet—and his first ever in Las Vegas—by outlasting a field of 10,794 entrants and defeating Alexander Yen heads-up to claim the $843,140 top prize.
Heading into the final day, Kabrhel sat second in chips with five players remaining. He quickly took control of the table, building a dominant stack and holding a 3-to-1 chip lead during four-handed play. His aggressive style and constant table chatter—often a subject of criticism in the poker community—were once again on full display, but the results speak for themselves.
With this win, Kabrhel locked up his fourth final table appearance of the summer and climbed from 23rd to 1st in the WSOP Player of the Year standings. He now sits at around 3,316 points, edging past previous leader Benny Glaser, who has had a stellar summer of his own with three bracelet wins.
Glaser remains in the mix with 3,245.51 points, followed closely by Scott Bohlman (3,205.83), Joao Vieira (2,834.16), and Blaz Zerjav (2,708.53). But Kabrhel’s Mini Main Event victory marks a significant shift in the standings and adds more pressure to the closing stretch of the series.
While opinions remain divided on Kabrhel’s table demeanor, his ability to rack up results is undeniable. With just a handful of events left on the schedule, all eyes will be on whether Kabrhel can hold onto his lead and officially become the 2025 WSOP Player of the Year.
