The big win was the first six-figure cash and second ring for the player
Mark Barrientos won the $250 buy-in World Series of Poker Circuit No-Limit Hold ’em event in 2019 to win his first WSOPC gold ring and a five-figure top prize. Four years later, he would get another win after outlasting the 397-player field to take the 2023 WSOP Circuit Hard Rock Tulsa $1,700 No-Limit Hold ’em main event for his second gold ring, a $126,900 first-place prize and 600 Card Player Player of the Year points.
The first six-figure cash of Barrientos’ career increased his lifetime earnings to $163,106, most of which came on the WSOP Circuit. A total of $601,455 was paid to the top 60 finishers. Several prominent pros made deep runs in the event, including 2017 event winner Will Berry (39th), bracelet winners Jordan Morgan (53rd) and Bryan Campanello (15th), and Kasey Mills (12th), who took fifth place in an earlier WSOPC main event at Hard Rock Tulsa last spring.
The tournament’s final day began with seven players remaining and Lionel Jiang in the chip lead. He would soon send Mark Martin to the rail for seventh place and $18,065. However, after eliminating Tomas Teran in sixth place ($23,519) and Wayne Nicholsen for fifth place ($31,807), James Stone would be the next to go after his pocket eights lost to Jiang’s pocket queens and finish in fourth place ($41,707).
Barrientos hit aces up against Brent Gregory’s pocket tens to end the latter’s tournament in third place ($56,785). Jiang and Barrientos would then go heads-up, as the final hand saw the champion overcome Jiang’s all-in to win with two pair against his 6H, 2H, that got no help on the board. Jiang would earn $78,440 as runner-up.
