Hammon will take her competitive skills from the court to the felt in the Bahamas
Becky Hammon has been busy during the WNBA offseason and will join NBA legend Tony Parker at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) event in December.
The Las Vegas Aces head coach and former San Antonio Spurs star will attend the WSOP Paradise event, with Hammon reuniting with Parker, a 2023 Hall of Fame inductee, as they swap the basketball court for the poker table. They’re just two of the poker enthusiasts heading to Atlantis Bahamas for the WSOP’s winter festival, running from December 3 -14.
It will be sort of a reunion for Hammon and Parker since Hammon was an assistant coach for the Spurs for eight years before getting the Aces head coaching job in 2021. Hammon’s first tournament will be the $5 million guaranteed $1,650 Mystery Millions, beginning on Sunday. After her outstanding basketball career, she’s now transitioning that competitiveness to her poker game.
Parker, known for playing in-flight poker games with his Spurs teammates, has displayed his skills at many events, including his Las Vegas invitation-only tournament. The NBA legend has described his relationship with poker as a “pretty cool experience.” His poker competitiveness is apparent, as he jokingly refuses to say which teammate he won the most money from, although he confesses to winning more often than not, especially against fellow Spurs icon Tim Duncan.
The WSOP at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is the world’s richest gaming event, awarding more than $3.5 billion in prizes plus the coveted gold bracelet, the most expensive trophy in sports.
