Daniel Negreanu lays out what’s coming for hockey fans starting this month
The 2023-24 NHL season is just a few days away, and Daniel Negreanu, one of the top poker players in the world, has predicted how teams will finish in the standings in all four divisions from the two conferences this season.
Negreanu predicts that the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators of the Atlantic Division in the East are his picks for the two teams that end the regular season at the top of the Conference, with the Florida Panthers finishing third.
Kid Poker thinks the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning are two playoff teams from last year that will struggle in the conference in 2023 because of injuries and the loss of key players during the offseason.
He also predicts the New Jersey Devils will win the Metropolitan Division, with the Carolina Hurricanes second and the New York Rangers finishing third, and that the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins will be among the teams battling in the Eastern Conference for a Wild Card spot.
Negreanu thinks that the Central Division in the Western Conference is the “hardest” to predict but says the Dallas Stars will win the division ahead of Colorado and Minnesota.
The Edmonton Oilers are his pick to win the Pacific Division, followed by Vegas and Los Angeles. However, Negreanu made a bold prediction about the Seattle Kraken, saying after making the playoffs for the first time last year, they will regress in the 2023 season.
Negreanu also says Calgary is an interesting team to watch for in the division, as they will start the upcoming NHL season with a new head coach.
