The prize pool almost doubled following a record turnout
The 2024 World Series of Poker Circuit $300 Colossus in Ontario has finally come to an end. After 14 hours of play, Keven Desgagne emerged on the final day as the winner after beating Alexandre Clusiau heads-up to take the $64,905 top prize in an intense showdown at Playground.
The first of 15 WSOP-C ring events at the series, Colossus drew 3,964 players, creating a massive $673,782 prize pool. This topped the previous WSOP-C Colossus at Playground, which attracted 3,538 entrants in August 2019 and is the largest tournament field in its history.
Wali Nezam was the short stack on the final day with just under nine big blinds but came back after several double-ups to reach the final table and finish in fifth place. Upon exiting, he received a round of applause from the remaining players, taking home $17,359 for his efforts.
Jeffrey Cormier started as the final table chip leader, with his aggressive play taking multiple pots without a showdown. However, his stack would be reduced after clashing with Alexandre Clusiau’s pocket aces with pocket kings. He eventually fell in fourth place for a $23,145 payday.
The three remaining players then agreed on an ICM chop, leaving another $17,554 on the table for the winner. A short time later, Remy Tetart ($39,282) was sent home in third place, setting up the battle between Desgagne and Clusiau.
The chip count was nearly even at the start of head-up play. Clusiau would immediately extend his lead before Desgagne would win a big preflop flip to go ahead. Desgagne would close the deal a few hands later after a full house on the turn would eliminate Clusiau ($48,552) to claim the $64,898 first prize and his first WSOP Circuit Ring.
