The Spanish pro didn’t need much time to bring the tournament to its end
The PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus $50,000 Super High Roller event at Merit Royal Diamond Hotel Casino & Spa finished earlier than the three days it was scheduled after Day 2 was extended late into the night. Juan Pardo of Spain won the trophy and the $688,560 prize after beating countryman Vicente Delgado in a brief heads-up duel, sending him home with $583,400 for second place.
Pardo had to overcome a final table with many notable pros on his way to the championship, including third-place finisher Teun Mulder and high rollers Quan Zhou, Sam Grafton and Leon Sturm, who also took home a piece of the $2,231,460 prize pool.
Paulius Plausinaitis was the chip leader among the 25 players to start the day but was short-stacked for most of it and couldn’t survive against Mikalai Vaskaboinikau, who was sent to the rail shortly after when pushing in his final twelve blinds preflop against Zhou and failing to improve his hand. However, Zhou ($156,200) would be the next player eliminated in sixth place after his ace-queen lost against Mulder’s ace-jack.
Sturm ($200,800) would be the next to go, after his pocket aces were cracked by Pardo’s king-eight after he turned two pair. Pardo would then eliminate Grafton in fourth place ($256,600) and had a massive chip lead with almost 10 million of the remaining 11.5 million chips before seeing his two opponents double up several times as play continued through the night.
Mulder would finally leave in third place ($345,900) after Pardo hit a flush to beat his ace-nine. The final hand would see Pardo’s ace-queen hold up against the ace-ten of Delgado ($583,400), giving him his first EPT Super High Roller championship and a $688,560 payday.
