Jonathan Jaffe picks up $1.5 million in WPT high roller

The World Poker Tour’s big schedule continues to reward huge prizes

As the World Series of Poker continues, higher stakes events were taking at Wynn Las Vegas during the ongoing World Poker Tour (WPT). One is the $111,000 buy-in Alpha8 for One Drop high roller. Jonathan Jaffe, hailing from Massachusetts, emerged victorious after three days of intense gameplay, pocketing $1,537,600, which marked a milestone in his career.

The field consisted of 45 entries and was brimming with elevated challenges in the realm of high-level tournaments. The turnout for the event led to a massive prize pool of $4,612,500 and a bonus to people around the world. A fraction of every buy-in aids the One Drop Foundation, an organization dedicated to facilitating clean water accessibility worldwide.

Out of the initial group, only seven players managed to secure a cash prize. Denmark’s Henrik Hecklen was the unfortunate player to be eliminated on the bubble during the latter part of day 2.

Following a thrilling race, Isaac Haxton’s luck ran out as he was eliminated in seventh place, finalizing the composition of the official livestreamed final table. This eventually led to a table that featured an intense showdown between Jaffe, Taylor von Kriegenbergh and Dan Smith.

Each of them had achieved victory in a previous WPT event, and now they aimed to claim the prestigious Roller Alpha8 High Trophy. Jaffe managed to secure a crucial victory with a remarkable hand featuring kings and nines, surpassing von Kriegenbergh’s strong tens and nines. This triumph propelled Jaffe into the lead, while Smith, unfortunately, ran out of chips and had to settle for third place. Nonetheless, Smith walked away with a hefty sum of $701,700, which contributed to his impressive career earnings of $45.6 million and secured him a spot in seventh place on the all-time leaderboard.

32 hands later, Jaffe had a 2:1 lead over his opponent when they got in deep. von Kriegenbergh tried to run it out with K-Q, but didn’t find any luck on the board. Jaffe was holding pocket 10s, which would be enough to give him the win and the huge payday.
