Horseshoe Las Vegas plans memorial celebration for Doyle Brunson

The poker community can honor one of the greatest names to have ever graced the poker industry

At noon on July 2, the poker community should visit the Jubilee Theater at the Horseshoe Las Vegas. It’s going to be a unique occasion dedicated to honoring the remarkable life and lasting poker heritage of Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson, the Godfather of poker.

Doyle’s career, viewed from the perspective of his intimate inner sanctum, will be recalled during the event, which is supported by Poker Royalty, LLC, a management firm owned by Brunson. Collaborating in the effort are PokerGO, World Series of Poker (WSOP) and World Poker Tour (WPT).

The life of Brunson, a poker icon, will be celebrated by various legends of the game, such as Jack Binion, Lyle Berman, Dewey Tomko, Billy Baxter, Eric Drache, Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu. Accompanied by Brunson’s closest friends and family members, they all will share their treasured memories and thoughts on his valuable existence and influential poker legacy. Brunson passed away at the age of 89 in May.

Throughout his extensive career in high-stakes poker and competitive tournaments, Brunson emerged as one of the early trailblazers of the game. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the global poker community, spanning past and present eras.

Brunson stands out as the first player who made it to $1 million in tournament earnings, and is placed second on the all-time WSOP leaderboard, linking with Johnny Chan and Phil Ivey with a tally of ten bracelets, as Phil Hellmuth dominates the field with a count of 16. Apart from this, only a minority of players have ever won the WSOP Main Event multiple times.

Texas Dolly holds the distinction of being among three individuals to earn a WSOP bracelet for four successive years. Furthermore, he is the primary out of six players to have grabbed both a WSOP Main Event and WPT victory. In recognition of his immense impact on the game, he was named the foremost force in the realm of poker by Bluff magazine in 2006.

The event commemorating Doyle’s poker heritage and life is open to the public at no charge, with organizers urging attendees to arrive early at the Jubilee Theater, as seating is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and the venue opens at 11:30 AM.
