The Poker Brat came up short as he was looking for his 18th WSOP title
The “Poker Brat,” Phil Hellmuth, came close to winning his 18th WSOP bracelet on Tuesday, reaching the final table in Event #43: $1,500 Mixed Omaha with hopes of extending his record to seven more bracelets than the next closest competitor. However, he would come up just short of another WSOP title.
Hellmuth had the sixth-highest chip count among the remaining 22 players on Day 3 of the Mixed Omaha event, which started with 853 entrants. At 1:00 PM, they sat down at the Horseshoe Las Vegas Events Center.
Advancing to the final table on Day 3 was a challenging task for the Poker Hall of Famer, especially when playing against a field that included top grinders like Shaun Deeb and Nathan Gamble. Hellmuth remained patient on the final day, waiting for the right time to strike while avoiding any major confrontations early.
Deeb used the same strategy after starting the day with a below-average chip stack but failed to improve during the first two levels. He ended the tournament in 16th place for $7,543.
Hellmuth’s chip stack started to dwindle as the day advanced, and he couldn’t find a double-up or win a substantial pot. After four hours, he found himself with the second-smallest stack among the 11 remaining players, with only Edward Jackson Spivack holding fewer chips.
He pushed in his last chips in a Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo hand against Magmus Edengren, only to lose after getting no help with a flush draw after the flop. Hellmuth shook the other player’s hands and was given a round of applause as he went to the rail with $64,324 for finishing in fourth place.
