Leon Tsoukernik was in a coma for almost four days, allegedly brought on by the illegal use of drugs
Leon Tsoukernik, the former owner of King’s Resort, has made a remarkable recovery after a health scare that left him in a coma for 40 hours. The Czech businessman and poker enthusiast, known for his role in bringing the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) to King’s Resort, collapsed at his home earlier in January and was hospitalized in critical condition.
Reports suggest that his condition was linked to an unprofessional administration of propofol, a potent anesthetic also associated with the death of pop star Michael Jackson.
Initially, doctors were uncertain whether Tsoukernik would fully recover, expressing concerns about potential long-term effects on his cognitive and motor functions. However, he defied expectations and was able to sit up and engage in conversations within days of regaining consciousness. Two weeks after awakening, he described himself as feeling “fantastic” and even recalled memories he had long forgotten.
Following the incident, Czech police launched an investigation into potential criminal activity related to his overdose. While details remain limited, authorities confirmed they were looking into possible illegal behavior in Chodová Planá, the town where Tsoukernik resides.
Tsoukernik expressed deep gratitude toward the medical team at the University Hospital Pilsen, crediting them with saving his life. He also thanked his wife, Sandra, for staying by his side throughout his hospitalization.
Despite selling his majority stake in King’s Resort for an estimated $410 million in 2024, Tsoukernik remains a prominent figure in the poker world. With over $5.4 million in tournament earnings, he is still among the most successful Czech poker players. His rapid recovery has surprised many, and he seems eager to move forward from the life-threatening ordeal.
