The septuagenarian’s death follows just five months after Texas Dolly’s passing

Louise Brunson, the wife of the late poker icon Doyle Brunson, has passed away, according to a post on social media by their daughter, Pamela Brunson.

The couple spent many of their 62 years of marriage living in Las Vegas. Meeting in 1959, they married in 1962 and had three children: Pamela, Poker Hall of Famer Todd Brunson and Doyla, who died in 1982 at age 18.

Doyle was a regular at the tables until the end and for the duration of his marriage, but caring for his wife was his top priority as she dealt with health issues the last several years.

Pamela posted a tribute to Louise on Facebook, writing that her mother died peacefully in her sleep. “I’m sure she is so excited to be in heaven with my dad,” reads the social media post. A funeral will be held on Monday by invitation only.

In 2018, Louise gave a rare interview to PokerNews. Louise and Doyle were raised in Texas, but she earned a degree as a lab technician at the University of Georgia in less than four years. She then moved to San Angelo, Texas, in the late 1950s, where she worked as a pharmacist.

Louise met Doyle after going with work friends to hear a country and western band, where Doyle attended with 1975 WSOP Main Event winner Bryan “Sailor” Roberts. They soon began talking, as Doyle explained he was a bookmaker. Louise wasn’t sure what exactly that was, saying, “I thought he was a bookkeeper.”

Louise had a straightforward answer about what kept them together after all these years. “Love. I loved him,” she said. “True love. We’ve had a really happy marriage. That’s why you really need to be in love. Because the love will bring you through.”
