Two of poker’s hottest players are ready for battle today
Kid Poker will face off against ‘Kid Polker’ for $200,000 at this week’s PokerGO High Stakes Duel on Thursday. Daniel Negreanu and Doug Polk are preparing for a monster heads-up poker clash.
There is some history between these two players leading up to the event. Negreanu declared himself unbeatable in the upcoming match during this summer’s World Series of Poker, saying, “Doug Polk has never in history beat me playing live poker. It’s never happened. We played once [and] I obviously won. Online poker thing, forget about that. Live poker, my arena, I’m gonna come away with the victory. Bring it.”
Dnegs also admitted in that video that if he happens to lose, he’ll most likely rechallenge. “We’re not even going to throw out the idea of him beating me. If something crazy were to happen, chances are pretty good I’d do a rematch, but we’re not looking at no rematch.”
Negreanu and Polk have become good friends since Polk beat him for $1.2 million in an online heads-up clash. Even if Negreanu loses on Thursday, he clearly has the edge in live play.
Since Polk’s came out on top in the online High Stakes Feud, Negreanu has moved from a PokerStars Team Pro to GGPoker, and Polk went from YouTube to co-owner of The Lodge Card Club in Texas.
The newest High Stakes Duel starts at 5 p.m. on PokerGO. It’s the second march of Round 4, meaning the players must put up $100,000 instead of $50,000. Polk must dig into his pocket for his stake, while Negreanu can use winnings from his last match in the round where he beat Eric ‘Maverick’ Persson, who refused to rechallenge after the loss.
