Daniel Negreanu admits he needs to make some adjustments to get his poker groove back
After more than $2.2 million in poker tournament losses last year, Daniel Negreanu recently announced in a 23-minute YouTube video that he’s changing up his strategy for 2024. The Poker Hall of Famer has been playing primarily Las Vegas events lately, mainly PokerGO Tour high roller events and World Series of Poker (WSOP) tournaments. Besides making a profit, his primary objectives are winning his third WSOP Player of the Year and winning gold bracelets, which have eluded him since 2013.
Those who have watched his vlogs from the WSOP last summer saw that Negreanu lost over $1.9 million at the previous two World Series of Poker. However, DNegs is among the only high rollers to show fans his profit/loss spreadsheet. “Just by sheer numbers, I was playing far too often,” said Negreanu in the video.
Negreanu also discussed running poorly after deep runs in tournaments and critical all-in situations. Fans following his summer vlogs have witnessed numerous clips of him losing races or getting his money in good, only to lose on pivotal hands at the WSOP. He finished 2022 with a $1.6 million profit after taking the $3.3 million top prize at the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl.
Negreanu says he’ll change things up in 2024. “First of all, I’m going to run better, that’s already been decided,” he joked as he prayed to the poker gods. He’s recently entered over 50 bracelet events during the summer and usually turns a profit, but he has had a rough time in the past two WSOPs.
DNegs says he plans to reduce his number of low buy-in tournaments to focus exclusively on high-roller events. He also intends to play fewer online WSOP bracelet tournaments next summer to concentrate on playing live events.
