Daniel Negreanu saw his stack quickly dwindle before finally succumbing to a bad run

Daniel Negreanu faced a tough day at the 2024 WSOP Paradise $25,000 Super Main Event. Despite entering Day 3 with a strong stack of 5,795,000 chips, placing him 39th among 297 remaining players, Negreanu’s tournament came to a frustrating end.

Early in the day, DNegs troubles began when he doubled up Weiran Pu in a blind-versus-blind clash. Holding live cards, Negreanu called Pu’s all-in but failed to connect with the board, dropping a significant portion of his stack. Not long after, a second major loss to Russia’s Anatoly Zlotnikov reduced him to just 2 million chips, setting the tone for an uphill battle.

Negreanu’s elimination came during Level 17 when he three-bet jammed from the big blind with pocket tens against Justin Carey, who held king-jack suited. The flop brought a jack, giving Carey the lead, while the turn presented a glimmer of hope for Negreanu with an open-ended straight draw. However, the river didn’t deliver, and Negreanu’s tournament run ended in 170th place, earning him $67,300.

Following his exit, Negreanu didn’t mince words about his experience, describing it as one of the least enjoyable days at the table. “I had no fun today at any point from the start,” he lamented. His frustration was palpable, highlighting the emotional toll even seasoned professionals face during high-stakes competition.

The $25,000 Super Main Event, which drew an impressive 1,978 entrants alongside 90 online qualifiers, continues without one of its most celebrated figures. While Negreanu’s journey ended sooner than expected, his candid reflections once again showcase the highs and lows of tournament poker.
