The WPT’s stop in Liechtenstein proved to be a huge event for players
The 2023 World Poker Tour (WPT) Liechtenstein CHF $1,100 (US$1,232) buy-in main event was held at Grand Casino Liechtenstein and set a new regular-season WPT Prime record with 1,644 entries and a $1.8-million prize pool. After two full days of action from six starting flights, David Kozma took the title and the $300,541 top prize.
The win almost tripled Kozma’s previous top score of $105,000 as runner-up at the $1,700 buy-in Winter Poker Open at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in 2022. He’s now gone over $453,000 in tournament earnings.
Eleven players remained on the final day, with Kozma in the chip lead and holding it until the final table. Alessandro Pichierri (4th for $107,296) was the first to fall after he ran into Kozma’s KH, JS, which beat his KD, JC, after making a flush with four spades on the board. Kozma then put away Lukas Pazma (3rd for $143,360), with his K-10 suited hitting tens and fours to beat Pazma’s J-9 with the chips all-in preflop.
Marc Sen (2nd for $193,200) led at the start of heads-up play with 26,600,000 chips vs. Kozma’s 22,900,000. It took just 22 hands to decide the winner, as Kozma moved into the lead before the final hand.
Sen limped on the button with AD, 6H, and Kozma checked with his 6C, 5H. After the 8S, 6D, 2H flop, Kozma bet one big blind before Sen raised it to three. Kozma would call before the turn revealed the 5S and then bet three big blinds. Sen raised to 15 big blinds, and Kozma called holding two pair. A 5D on the river improved him to a full house and earned him the title.
