Coleman returns to the felt and picks up his first live tourney win
David Coleman began the 2024 Card Player Poker Tour Venetian $1,600 No-Limit Hold ’em Main Event with 152 cashes, over $3.6 million in earnings, and no live tournament titles. However, he would outlast the field of 457 players to win the CPPT Venetian and the $115,989 prize.
The CPPT main event occurred over four days at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, exceeding the guarantee with a final prize pool of $648,940 paid to the top 59 players. Coleman won a big pot before the final table, climbing to third in the chip count just before Ivan Ruban (9th for $11,764) was the first sent to the rail. Qing Liu (8th for $14,833) soon followed, taking his career earnings to $2,980,540. Coleman also earned 720 Card Player Player of the Year points and is currently second in the 2024 POY standings presented by Global Poker.
Bob Buckenmayer (7th for $19,004) was ultimately the next to be sent home, bringing his career total to over $1.5 million. Esther Kim’s (6th for $24,734) run would end after clashing with Louis Cheffy, who would also eliminate Vinh Ho (5th for $32,694) a short time later.
Coleman’s K-4 suited then outran the A-4 of Eugene Tung to send him off in fourth place ($43,880). Michael Rossitto (3rd for $59,784), the winner of the 2023 Wynn Millions main event, would be the next player stopped by Cheffy, giving Coleman a 2:1 chip lead before heads-up play, where it didn’t take long for him to find trip aces on the final hand to secure the title.
Cheffy’s runner-up finish earned him $82,666, the third-largest career score for the World Series of Poker Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club main event winner.
