The two poker greats had outstanding performances throughout 2024
Cherish Andrews and David Coleman have cemented their places in poker history by earning prestigious Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of the Year honors. These accolades, set to be presented at the Global Poker Awards in Las Vegas, highlight their standout performances throughout the year.
David Coleman narrowly edged out Jesse Lonis to claim the GPI Player of the Year title. Coleman’s impressive year saw him accumulate 4,383.70 points, just ahead of Lonis with 4,374.38. Adrian Mateos, Ren Lin, and Mike Watson rounded out the top five.
Coleman’s exceptional tournament results, including over $5.2 million in live cashes, marked a career year. He secured his three largest cashes in 2024, including a $730,300 win in a $25,000 buy-in WPT Alpha8 event and an $890,000 payday for sixth place in the WSOP Paradise $100,000 Triton Main Event. These late-year successes pushed Coleman to the top of the leaderboard.
Cherish Andrews claimed the GPI Female Player of the Year award for the second time in three years. She overcame fierce competition from Kristen Foxen, a perennial contender for the title, winning the race with 3,115.65 points to Foxen’s 2,916.13.
Andrews’ achievements included winning a World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) ring at Harrah’s Cherokee for $108,971 and additional cashes in December that solidified her lead. Across the year, Andrews secured three tournament victories, cashed 36 times, and earned a career-high $829,863, bringing her lifetime earnings close to $2.7 million.
These honors reflect Andrews’ and Coleman’s dedication and skill in a highly competitive field. Their achievements underscore their status as top-tier players in the poker world, with 2024 marking a year they’ll both long remember.
