The World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) festival at the Commerce Casino in California concluded with a thrilling finish. Canadian poker professional and television producer Matthew Salsberg claimed victory in the $1,700 Main Event.
Over two weeks of competition, the festival featured 18 ring events, culminating in a massive turnout for the Main Event, which drew 1,209 entries across three opening flights. The event generated a prize pool of $1,831,635, with Salsberg securing the top prize of $286,134 and a coveted WSOP Circuit gold ring.
Salsberg, known for his work on TV shows like Weeds and The War at Home, has a storied poker career. His resume includes a WPT title from the 2012 WPT Paris €7,500 (US$7,900) Main Event, two additional WPT final table appearances, and multiple deep runs at the WSOP, including a 70th-place finish in the 2011 Main Event. This latest victory brings his total live tournament earnings to $3.57 million, solidifying his reputation in the poker world.
The Commerce Main Event featured a highly competitive field, with payouts for the top 161 finishers. The prize money reached six figures starting from third place. Michael Liang, who boasts over $4 million in live cashes, finished third, earning $137,599. Anthony Marquez, with $1.5 million in career earnings, took home $190,774 for second place after a heads-up battle with Salsberg.
Salsberg’s win adds another highlight to a poker career already filled with significant achievements. As the WSOP Circuit continues with events in Las Vegas and North Carolina, players are gearing up for more action before the holiday season. Meanwhile, Salsberg’s triumph at Commerce remains a standout moment in this year’s circuit.
