The player tried to double his stack after incorrectly being given more chips
Brazilian poker pro and bracelet winner Rafael Caiaffa was suspended indefinitely from playing at the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) after adding extra chips to his stack at the BSOP Millions festival, which is still underway in Sao Paulo.
On Day 2 of the Latin America Poker Tour (LAPT) BRL 5,000 buy-in Mystery KO (Event #30 of BSOP Millions), Caiaffa was given 100,000 starting chips after registration and took another stack of 100,000 from the dealer when he sat down at the table.
Video evidence showed that Caiaffa put his initial starting stack in his backpack. Once he was moved to another table, he attempted to add on the second stack. According to MundoPoker, fellow Brazilian Eduardo Silva saw that Caiaffa was down to 10,000 chips before arriving at the new table with a stack of 110,000.
BSOP CEO Devanir Campos verified on X that Caiaffa had inadvertently received an extra stack. After he was kicked out of the LAPT event and suspended from the BSOP series, Caiaffa confessed to adding on the extra chips and accepted that his punishment was warranted.
“I don’t take away my responsibility. A player at my table noticed and spoke up, and he’s more than right. The floor came and saw everything that happened. I also told the truth, and he eliminated me,” Caiaffa told Card Player Brasil editor Marcelo Souza after his suspension.
Caiaffa is a prominent Brazilian poker pro who played at this summer’s 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP). He won an online bracelet under the nickname “BruxoR10” at the $2,500 Limit Hold ’em Championship on GGPoker in 2022.
Super Poker reported that Caiaffa’s suspension from BSOP Millions is indefinite and that organizers plan to meet after the festival’s conclusion to discuss the incident further.
