Sailing the high seas proves to be a big success as Oganyan captures his first WPT title
Aram Oganyan is the newest World Poker Tour (WPT) Champion after four days on the high seas aboard the WPT Voyage. He would claim his first WPT title at the $5,000 WPT Voyage Championship to earn a place on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup and the $214,245 first-place prize, which includes a ticket to the 2024 WPT World Championship in Las Vegas.
“I feel amazing. This is so fun. This is unbelievable. I won some flips at the end, got some bluffs through, and here we are. We got our name on the trophy. RIP Mike, the legend,” said Oganyan after the win. “I thought poker on a cruise would be an amazing thing, and it is so amazing… everyone should do it.”
The WPT Voyage Championship drew 293 entries to surpass the $1 million guarantee and generate $1,347,800 in total prize money, with the top 37 players taking a payout. The final three players would cut a deal for an ICM chop, modifying the remaining payouts, before playing for the trophy and the WPT title.
“The Championship event of WPT Voyage did not disappoint,” commented WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “What a sight it was to see such a prominent group of players battle on board a world-class Virgin Voyages ship. In the end, we congratulated Aram for his achievement in joining the WPT Champions Club.”
Carlo Basurto finished second for a $202,885 payout, and Austin Srur would take third place for $188,670. Others at the final table included Romulo Dorea (6th for $55,000), 2023 WPT World Championship winner Dan Sepiol (5th for $75,000), and Farid Jattin (4th for $100,000).
