Shane was allegedly trying to escape to Colombia on a one-way ticket when he was arrested

Shane Hennen, a Las Vegas gambler accused of cheating in private poker games, has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the illegal betting scheme involving former NBA player Jontay Porter. Hennen, 39, was detained at Harry Reid International Airport while attempting to board a one-way flight to Colombia. Authorities believe he was trying to evade arrest.

The US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, which is leading the investigation, revealed that Hennen is the fifth individual arrested in the scheme. The scandal centers around Porter, a former Toronto Raptors player, who admitted to faking the severity of an injury in early 2024 games.

He had tipped off gamblers beforehand, allowing them to profit from his manipulated stats. Porter’s involvement stemmed from a large gambling debt he owed the group, leading to his lifetime ban from the NBA. Two of the other four arrested individuals have already pled guilty.

Hennen is no stranger to controversy in the poker world. He has been accused of being part of a cheating ring that targeted high-stakes cash games in Los Angeles. The allegations, made by poker figures like Wesley Fei and Nik Arcot, claimed that Hennen and others stole millions of dollars through illicit activities in private games. Hennen reportedly operated under the alias “Colin” in these games and has a history of legal troubles.

One of Hennen’s alleged co-conspirators, Long Phi “Bruce” Pham, was also arrested last year while attempting to flee the country under similar circumstances. Pham later pled guilty.

Hennen is expected to appear in court soon, with extradition to New York likely as the case progresses. His arrest marks another chapter in the investigation into one of the largest gambling-related scandals tied to professional sports.
