The upcoming poker tournament series hopes to draw attention with large prize pools
The World Poker Tour (WPT) has confirmed that the upcoming WPT Championship will have its biggest prize pool ever of $40,000,000 guaranteed for the $10,400 buy-in tournament running from December 12-21 at the Wynn Las Vegas. An additional starting flight has also been added to the event, which attracted 2,960 entries at the inaugural tournament last year.
“The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach new heights, and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before,” declared WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “The journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.”
The 2022 event’s $15 million guarantee ballooned after the number of entries into three starting flights to $29,008,000, which was awarded to the top 371 players. Eliot Hudon would win the championship, taking home $4,136,000. The top six players all earned a payout of at least seven figures.
Four starting flights will be available as the tournament aims to reach poker’s biggest prize guarantee ever. The prize structure sheet on WPT’s site indicates that $9,800 will be added to the prize pool from each entry, meaning the event must attract at least 4,082 players to go over the guarantee.
The WPT World Championship festival begins on November 29. It will run through December 23, featuring more than 30 events, including the $5 million guaranteed WPT Prime Championship, the $1 million Big One for One Drop and the $250,000 guaranteed WPT Ladies World Championship.
