The WSOP has officially come to a close

The record-setting tournament series raised the bar on future events

The 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas wrapped up on July 18th after the 50th day of an unprecedented event. Only four events remained on the final day before the WSOP could officially conclude the action.

Event #91: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. was in its final day, with a duel between Ryan Miller and Leonard August. The heads-up duo returned to play at 2:00 pm. Miller took less than a level of one-on-one play to win his second bracelet of the series.

Online short deck expert Martin Nielsen took Event #93: $10,000 Short Deck Championship, beating a stellar field of 106 players. As the day began, all eyes were on John Juanda, who aimed to join Josh Arieh and Phil Hellmuth as the only players to win bracelets at Binion’s, Rio, and the Horseshoe. However, Juanda was the short stack and was the first to bust.

Third on the final day was Event #94: $5,000 No-Limit Hold ’em (8-Handed). Alex Keating walked away with a career-high $701,688 prize and his first bracelet at the WSOP. Keating has been cashing at the WSOP since 2009, so he’ll cherish this bracelet that took him so long to win.

Finally, Event #95: $1,000 Super Turbo No-Limit Hold’em had a surprisingly stacked field considering the low buy-in. Champion Paul Berger, who thought he was done playing poker this summer, happened to be at the casino withdrawing the remainder in his account and saw the one-day turbo was underway, so he joined in. His decision helped win him his first WSOP bracelet, and he plans on donating his $212,645 grand prize to charity.
