Jason Koon shows that he’s just getting started in deep poker runs this year
Jason Koon picked up his ninth Triton Poker Super High Roller title to lead all players on the tour catered to those who are satisfied with very expensive buy-ins. Koon, the Triton 2023 Player of the Year, is making his dominance look easy.
His second win at the London stop in the $63,000 short-deck main was his fourth title since May, completing the task on the same day Poker Hall of Famer Phil Ivey won his second London title and his fifth overall in another short-deck tournament.
And luck is not the only reason Koon has played so dominantly on the seven-year-old tour. Luck won’t win you nine titles playing against some of the world’s biggest names in the highest buy-in tournaments. It also doesn’t account for Koon’s $51 million in winnings, with nearly half of that coming in Triton Super High Roller events.
Second-place finisher Wai Kiat Lee is still seeking his first Triton Poker Super High Roller win. He finished in second place for the fourth time since 2022 and has two third places, with all but one of those deep runs coming in short-deck events.
Another that has come close to winning his first Triton without a win is Tan Xuan, who has $8 million in career winnings and won $2,308,384 in 2018 for his largest lifetime cash. Wai Kin Yong won his fourth Triton title in London, his first since 2019 after taking two wins in 2019. He’s just shy of $13 million in lifetime winnings.
2020 World Series of Poker Milly Maker champion Daniel Dvoress took his first Triton title in May and snuck in under the bubble for his eighth Triton cash and sixth final table since his last win.
