Sergio Aguero, the renowned former Manchester City player, is making strides toward achieving the status of a world champion. He discreetly joined the highly anticipated and prestigious World Series of Poker Main Event. Despite his prominence, Aguero managed to maintain a low profile throughout the event, which ended much like his soccer career.
Having hung up his boots at the age of 35, the former Argentinian footballer unexpectedly retired from the sport in 2021. The same year he switched from Manchester City to Barcelona, he experienced a heart attack during Barcelona’s match against Alaves, a mere four games into his stint with the team.
In December 2021, he made the tough decision to step back from his career after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia. Because of his love for poker, a new aspiration has taken hold of Aguero’s mind this week – to become a world champion. Eager to prove his skills, he recently joined the massive Day 1C of the Main Event, competing against a staggering 10,000 fellow players.
Despite facing tough competition from players like Scott Blumstein, Espen Jorstad and Ryan Reiss, Aguero managed to outperform them on the first day of the tournament. His collection of 87,000 chips exceeded the initial 60,000 collection, which was already considered average. Notably, Aguero’s outstanding performance was remarkable, given that he was competing against over 10,000 players on Day 1C of the tournament.
On the third day of the event, Aguero’s run came to an abrupt end. He hit the rail before reaching the bubble, shattering his dreams of victory. However, he’s not done and promises to be back at the tables once again.
