The annual poker event will run from August 13 to 25 at MGM National Harbor in Baltimore
The Potomac Poker Open is set to return this summer, running from August 13 to 25 at MGM National Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland. The upcoming series will feature a packed schedule of tournaments, including several headline events and a wide range of buy-ins to attract players from across the region.
Leading the schedule are two major prize pool tournaments: the Opener, which includes seven starting flights and a guaranteed prize pool of $750,000, and the Main Event, which will feature a $1,000,000 guarantee. These events are expected to draw large fields, especially following the strong turnout in previous years.
Also on the schedule are specialty tournaments, including the Cakes Classic Bounty, No Limit Hold’em High Roller, and the Charity Series of Poker, as well as several mixed games, offering something for players of all styles.
This year, MGM National Harbor will no longer deduct automatic gratuities from player buy-ins. Instead, optional staff add-ons will be included in each tournament’s listed buy-in. This move is likely to be welcomed by players, many of whom prefer transparent structures for staff compensation.
The 2024 Potomac Poker Open was a successful series, with over $2.5 million paid out in total prize money. The Main Event, which had a $3,000 buy-in and a $1 million guarantee, drew 373 entries and just surpassed its target. Justin Liberto, a Maryland native and seasoned pro, won that event for $190,580, marking his second PPO Main Event title. He previously won the Winter Poker Open in early 2023.
Other notable winners last year included Christian Harder and Brady Bash, with events attracting familiar faces and newcomers alike. This year’s edition is expected to build on that momentum and offer another round of competitive poker, strong turnouts, and big payouts at one of the East Coast’s premier venues.
