Marcin Horecki is not only the only Polish bracelet winner, but he took down Matusow to get there
Marcin Horecki has done nothing no other Polish poker player has ever done. He claimed victory at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas casinos, winning the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better tournament after three days of intense gameplay. That makes him the first Polish player to win a WSOP bracelet, an accomplishment he achieved by rolling over Mike “The Mouth” Matusow to get there.
In a massive field of 566 participants, Horecki emerged victorious and secured $155,275, along with his first WSOP gold bracelet. He overpowered Matusow, who was gunning for his fifth bracelet, in the final stages of the game. The overall prize pool, thanks to the huge turnout, was a whopping $755,610.
The last day began with 18 players. Soon after, the field was reduced to nine as the final table was set. The beginning of the day resulted in the elimination of Darryl Ronconi, Lonnie Heimowitz, Timothy Frazin, Ahmed Mohamed, Denny Axel, Kyle Hinnerichs, Jose Paz-Gutierrez, James Juvancic and Patricia Yannuzzi.
The final table commenced as Kao Saechao bowed out, falling on the A-A of Day 2 chip leader James Cheung. From there, Horecki and Matusow were the last ones standing as the field of play diminished.
Horecki was initially in the lead with a 3-1 chip advantage, as the heads-up battle wore on for almost two hours. Matusow put up a valiant effort, continuously narrowing the gap between the two. The bout went on with both sides taking the lead; however, the event came to a close as Matusow lost with his 8-8 against Horecki’s J-J.
