The global poker platform has decided to throw in the towel on Norwegian players
In a strategic move, PokerStars has confirmed its decision to cease operations in Norway by the end of this month. The announcement was substantiated by Poker Industry PRO, revealing that an email notification was dispatched to players last week, informing them that as of Thursday, October 26, PokerStars’ online services would no longer be accessible in Norway.
A representative from PokerStars, in a statement issued to PRO on Friday, openly acknowledged the forthcoming withdrawal from the Norwegian market. The statement attributed the decision to “commercial reasons,” signifying a calculated business move by the prominent online poker operator.
“For commercial reasons, we have decided to stop offering our products to residents of Norway from 26 October 2023 and have informed our customers accordingly,” affirmed PokerStars in its communication with PRO.
Despite the imminent withdrawal, PokerStars assured its Norwegian customers that access to their accounts would be maintained and their funds would remain secure. This guarantees users the flexibility to withdraw their funds at their convenience. Notably, the discontinuation of services in Norway will not impact real-money online poker play, which will continue beyond the exit.
This development underscores the dynamic nature of the online gaming industry, where operators assess and recalibrate their market presence based on strategic considerations. As PokerStars bids adieu to the Norwegian market, the company emphasizes its commitment to customer satisfaction, ensuring account accessibility, fund security and an uninterrupted gaming experience for its player base.
PokerStars is the world’s largest real-money online poker room, also sponsoring live poker tours such as the Asia Pacific Tour (APPT) and the European Poker Tour (EPT).
