WSOP Circuit champ Karthik Ramakrishnan has pleaded not guilty for his involvement
Karthik Ramakrishnan, a poker player and doctor from Virginia, was taken into custody on Thursday after being accused of causing damage to the US Capitol during the events that took place on January 6, 2021. According to official court documents, law enforcement officers arrested Ramakrishnan as part of their probe into the disturbances which occurred on that day.
The FBI was informed by an associate of Ramakrishnan in April of last year that the WSOP Circuit winner had gone to Washington, DC, on January 6. Additionally, it was revealed by Ramakrishnan’s colleague that the 45-year-old had sent them social media material concerning his visit, which contained images of the protests in the riots.
Ramakrishnan, who reportedly doesn’t have a criminal record, is scheduled to appear in court for the first time next Thursday. Given his response during the investigation, there is a possibility that he will enter a not guilty plea.
Ramakrishnan’s second career as a poker player flourished as he conquered the tables. His profile on Hendon Mob highlights his winnings of more than $440,000 obtained from live poker tournaments both in the US and abroad.
In 2012, Ramakrishnan’s inaugural taste of success earned him a tiny sum of $281 at the Rio Daily Deepstacks event. However, the tables turned in 2016 at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, North Carolina, when he pocketed $96,617 for finishing in fourth place at the renowned $1,675 WSOP No-Limit Hold ’em Main Event. His WSOP Circuit win came in November 2014, when he won the $365 No-Limit Hold ’em event at Harrah’s for $91.166.
