Alex “KDog Poker” Kobzyev finds out it’s difficult changing $100 into $30,000
A young Texas poker vlogger saw his ambitious bankroll challenge come to a quick and painful end. Alex “KDog Poker” Kobzyev set out to turn $100 into $30,000 in one month, fully aware the odds were stacked against him. The challenge lasted just eight days before his bankroll hit zero.
Kobzyev began the grind on January 1, playing $1/$2 games at Texas Card House in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He wasted no time building momentum, tripling his starting stack early and finishing Day 1 with $902. The fast start gave the challenge real energy and drew attention from viewers.
Over the next few sessions, the heater continued. A big hand that included runner-runner quads helped push his bankroll higher. Within days, he had climbed past $4,000, putting himself well ahead of pace and within striking distance of making the goal seem possible.
The turning point came on Day 8. After a small loss in a lower-stakes game, Kobzyev decided to jump into a much bigger $5/$5/$10 game with a $1,000 buy-in. The table played large, with frequent straddles and deep stacks, creating a high-pressure environment.
His first major setback came in a three-way all-in with ace-king against pocket jacks and pocket tens. Neither runout went his way. Soon after, he moved all in with ace-queen against a player holding pocket queens and lost again.
Attempts to recover only made things worse. Pocket jacks ran into pocket aces, and his final hand with pocket kings was cracked by a straight. Just like that, the bankroll was gone.
Kobzyev later admitted the shot at bigger stakes was reckless but felt necessary to reach such a large target. The challenge ended early, though he suggested he might try again with a more disciplined plan.
