There are 10 finalists who will now compete for this year’s honor
Yesterday, Caesars Entertainment and the World Series of Poker (WSOP) revealed the contenders for admission into the Poker Hall of Fame. The nominees for the Class of 2023 entail an almost equal number of individuals with extensive past records in the sport and those who have made contributions through alternative means. The list for 2023 was established according to the preferences shared by enthusiasts.
The Poker Hall of Fame accepts nominations from the public through its official website. Upon the conclusion of the nomination and voting period, a shortlist is presented for consideration for induction into the 2023 class of the Poker Hall of Fame. The following nominees are listed alphabetically.
Josh Arieh
Jeremy Ausmus
Ted Forrest
Kathy Liebert
Mike Matusow
Lon McEachern & Norman Chad
Brian Rast
Matt Savage
Isai Scheinberg
Bill Smith
Smith, a prominent player from the old school of poker, appears on this list as a major shocker. During the 80s WSOP, he was an excellent and reliable player who managed to qualify for the Championship final table three times. In 1981, he achieved his first final table appearance and went on to secure the world championship title in 1985. Smith attempted a return in 1986; however, he ended up finishing fifth.
A panel of 32 Hall of Fame residents cast votes, each provided with a total of ten votes to allocate as they please. They hold the freedom of either distributing a single vote amongst the nominees or contribute all ten to one single nominee. These members of the Poker Hall of Fame will soon receive the final list to vote on the nominee for the 2023 entry, and a ceremony during the WSOP Main Event final table on July 13 will present the winner.
