At just 32 years old, Tang’s journey in the Triton Poker Series has been remarkable. Over the last season, he cashed 19 times, made it to 13 final tables, and secured two titles, cementing his status as one of the series’ standout players. Reflecting on his journey, Tang recalled his first appearance at Triton five years ago in Montenegro, where he was inspired to compete against top poker talents. He described the Player of the Year award as “the most prestigious award in all of world poker.”
Tang’s rise to this recognition wasn’t just marked by skill; it also involved a strong support network. During the ceremony, he thanked his parents and girlfriend for their understanding and support, acknowledging the personal sacrifices that come with a career in professional poker.
Tang also took a moment to remember his friend and mentor Ivan Leow, after whom the award is named. He shared memories of Leow’s influence, describing how Leow had always encouraged him to keep pushing forward with the “Triton spirit,” adding, “We miss you, bro. Thank you for looking after us and all of our brothers.”
Earning 3,700 points in the Player of the Year rankings, Tang finished 350 points ahead of Jason Koon, a prominent figure in Triton Poker. His standout performances included a win in a $60,000 event in London earlier in the year, followed by strong showings across various stops, including Jeju, Montenegro, and Monte Carlo.
With this title, Tang has solidified his place among the top poker professionals in the world, a testament to his dedication and the influence of those who have supported him along the way.
