DJ Khalid joins several NBA stars in the upcoming poker game
Global Poker has announced it will host its first-ever Global Poker Celebrity Challenge, running from September 18 through November 13.
Four celebrities will take part in the challenge, which provides donations to charities. Players will have a chance to sit at the table with DJ Khaled, NBA superstars Paul George and Karl-Anthony Towns, and Olympic hero Michael Phelps. The celebrities will play each other in four heads-up challenges and participate in the Celebrity Challenge Finals, competing against other Global Poker players.
“For many of our players, Global Poker has been the best-kept secret in the poker world for some time,” said Global Poker General Manager David Lyons. “We see this challenge as a great opportunity to bring our unique and authentic poker experience to a wider audience and are thrilled to have these amazing athletes and musicians on board.”
Global Poker will host several Sweeps Coin qualifying events for Global Poker players to participate in before each celebrity showdown. Players who pass the Sweeps Coin qualifiers will play for a share of the prize pool and exclusive celebrity-signed Global Poker gear.
One player from each qualifier goes through to the Celebrity Final Challenge to play for a seat in the Global Poker Celebrity Challenge Grand Final on November 12, where they’ll have a chance to win their choice of a Ferrari Race Day experience anywhere in North America.
The celebrities will then play in the Celebrity Challenge Grand Final on November 13, where the top three finishers will donate a total of $90,000 to their favorite charities.
George says he plans to donate to the American Heart Association, which “holds a special place” in his heart since his mother suffered a stroke when he was a boy.
