Ian Auvil takes the top prize in a tournament that attracted a lot of participation
Ian Auvil was crowned the winner of the No-Limit Pub Poker Tour Bar Poker Open Florida World Championship after beating Ronald Kaepernick heads-up to take the title and $50,000 in a thrilling final day at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. A $122,688 prize pool was split among the top players as the recreational player from Stuart, Florida, earned his biggest career cash with the win.
The 43-player field on the final day was cut down to 27 within the first 30 minutes of play and was at 17 by the time the first break came two hours in. The fast elimination pace continued, and after less than four hours, the final table’s nine players had been set.
Bogdan Zavu was the first to go home after play resumed, taking home $1,250 for ninth place. Chris Davis soon followed in eighth for $1,500 after losing most of his stack to Zavu earlier and would head to the rail a short time later. David Phillips was the next to be eliminated in seventh for $2,000 before John Purdy left in sixth place to take home $2,500.
Auvil’s Kings would later hold vs. Miguel Medrano’s Ace-Jack that left him short-stacked, as his day ended shortly after, netting him $3,438 for his fifth-place finish. Auvil was down to three big blinds during four-handed play but built his stack back up after Paul Chamberlain ($5,200) was eliminated in fourth place. Avril would later double up through Kaepernick to take back the chip lead for good.
After flopping another set to send home Gregg Bloom in third place for $10,000, it would take just two hands for Aubil to eliminate Kaepernick ($22,500) to win the trophy and the $50,000 first prize.
