The new year is already delivering big poker cashes for tournament players
Some exciting action took place this past weekend at the 2024 PGT Kickoff at the PokerGO Studios in Las Vegas. Two events wrapped up, with Dylan Weisman taking the win in Event #2 on Saturday and Justin Young overcoming his short stack to take Event #3 on Sunday.
Sergii Kislinskii was the chip leader in Event #2, with Weisman second and David Coleman, Matthew McEwan and Jeremy Becker following. Jesse Lonis and Victoria Livschitz held the shorter stacks.
Livschitz ($18,000) moved all-in with A-10 against Becker’s pocket nines but got no help to hit the rail in seventh place. Lonis ($22,500) would double through McEwan, but a battle against Weisman would send him home in sixth place.
Weisman proceeded to demolish the remaining players. Coleman (5th for $31,500), McEwan (4th for $40,500) and Becker (3rd for $56,250) quickly fell, and after two hands Weisman would beat Kislinskii ($78,750) to secure the $121,500 top prize.
In Sunday’s Event #3 – $5000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament, Coleman was back at the final table with Kristen Foxen and Young, who started with 405,000 in chips vs. Foxen’s 2.2 million. Foxen eliminated Ryan Riess in seventh ($14,600), and Coleman took the lead after stopping Viktor Ustinov in sixth place ($18,250).
Dylan DeStefano then pushed all-in against Young with A-8 vs. his A-Q. After a Queen on the flop and a blank on the turn, DeStefano would go home in fourth place for $34,675. A rare three-way all-in would end the tournament, with Young hitting trips on the flop for the win. Coleman ($69,350) had more chips than Foxen ($49,275) to start the hand and would take second, while Young earned the PGT trophy and $105,850.
