Mastering Multi-table Online

Today I’m going to talk to you about how to get the most out of your online grind by multi-tabling to your maximum potential.

That’s the biggest difference between online play and live play at a casino. At a casino, you can only play one table at a time. Online you can play as many tables as you can mentally handle.

At the peak of my powers back in 2010 and 2011, I was about 24 years old and was playing 40 to 50 Sit n Go’s at a time, continuously for 8-10 hours straight with no breaks. Impossible you say? Well, first off Sit n Go’s back then gave you a little more time to act and gave you a 1 minute time bank for each game. But I’m going to explain how I worked up to that point and how you can get better at playing more tables online yourself.

Today, I personally don’t like to ever go above 16 tables at a time when I’m off stream and completely dialed in. I’ve found that my “sweet spot” is 12-14 tournament tables. That’s the amount of tables that I feel like I can play and still have my A game.

I played 3-4 tables at a time when I started playing online poker. When I was 19, a friend told me that there was some guy online crushing it by playing 20 tables at a time. At the time, I hadn’t even thought about that possibility. It seemed insane!! I had never played more than 4 tables at a time. My next session, I fired up 6 Sit n Go’s at the same time and played them all to completion. I was in college at the time. I remember afterwards that I needed to lay down on my dorm room couch because I felt so dizzy. I took a break for a couple hours and played 6 more until they were all done. I did this for a few days and then it was easy. After 3 days I then got 7 Sit n Go’s going and played them until completion. I continued practicing adding more and more games until one month later, I found that I could play 15 Sit n Go’s at a time, tiled on my basic Windows laptop in my dorm room and got to the point where I could continue registering for games as I got knocked out or won the Sit n Go. So I built up the tolerance to be able to handle 10-15 games continuously for hours and hours without a break.

Everybody has a different “maximum threshold” for how many tables they can play at the same time while still playing their “A” game. But 95%+ of all poker players don’t know what they’re capable of because they don’t practice playing more tables. I challenge you to start practicing multi-tabling online. The best way to do this is with 9-max cash games because you can get on and off as you choose. If you’re someone who plays 2 or 3 tables at a time, try adding a table the next time you play and play 4 tables at a time. Play 4 tables for a while until you feel comfortable with it. Then try upping to 5 tables. Just like anything in life, if you put in a strong effort with lots of reps, you’ll definitely surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.

Obviously, you’re going to eventually find a point where you feel like you’ve reached your limit. I challenge you to add a table to your next session whether you’re a cash game player, a Sit n Go player or a MTT (multi-table tourney) player. As much as I love the social aspect of playing live poker and having physical chips and cards in hand, there’s nothing like playing 12-14 tables online for the mental challenge, stimulation and constant brain power that it requires.

So, see what you’re capable of by adding one table at a time over a long period of time as you feel comfortable. Not only will you have fun with this challenge, but if you can master playing a solid game while playing more tables, then your profits will surely rise. See what you’re capable of. I’ll bet you’ll surprise yourself. I sure did.

Practice might not make perfect but it can certainly make you a lot better. Cheers.
