Representative Robert Davis has been inspired by recent studies on iGaming interest
Wyoming is gearing up for another attempt to legalize online casinos during its 2025 legislative session. Representative Robert Davis confirmed plans to reintroduce an iGaming bill, citing promising findings from a recent study that explored the potential economic impact of such legislation.
The Wyoming Gaming Commission, in partnership with the state legislature, commissioned Spectrum Gaming Group to assess the feasibility of online casinos. Their research suggested substantial financial benefits, estimating first-year revenues between $93 million and $138 million, which could climb to as much as $199 million by the fifth year.
State tax collections could range from $20 million in the first year to $40 million annually by year five. Notably, the study indicated that online casinos would not undermine existing gambling establishments or other gaming activities.
Currently, Wyoming permits online sports betting, operates three tribal casinos, supports racetracks with horse racing facilities, and allows charitable gaming and skill-based amusements at select venues. However, a previous attempt to pass online casino legislation fell short, with only 25 representatives in favor and 36 opposing.
Despite the setback, Davis believes the study’s findings could sway previously reluctant lawmakers, providing a clearer path for updated legislation.
The proposed bill is expected to include robust provisions for licensing and oversight, aiming to align Wyoming with the few US states, like Connecticut and Delaware, that have already embraced online casino gaming. If successful, the legislation could position Wyoming as a leader among smaller states exploring the potential of online gambling.
With the groundwork laid, the next legislative session could mark a turning point for the state’s gaming landscape, offering lawmakers a second chance to capitalize on this emerging industry.
