Should a Republican take the White House, cryptocurrency could become a reality
The Republican Presidential debate on August 23 will be attended by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, with Miami Mayor Francis Suarez apparently not making an appearance. 2024 Republican presidential candidates who have publicly voiced support or contempt for specific cryptocurrency-related policies will get together for the first time to debate.
The first Republican debate leading up to the 2024 election will be in Milwaukee on August 23. However, frontrunner former President Donald Trump says he won’t be appearing, as he’s currently facing four criminal indictments in several cases related to allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election results and other crimes.
The top candidate among the eight attendees will be Ron DeSantis, who trails Trump by more than 40 points in the latest polls. Should he win the presidency, the Florida governor has pledged to ban central bank digital currencies in the U.S. amid concerns about the government’s consumer payments control.
The 38-year-old Ramaswamy says the 2024 election should be a “referendum on fiat currency.” Speaking at the 2023 Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami, he announced that his campaign would accept donations in Bitcoin, which was applauded by X CEO Elon Musk, who called Ramaswamy a “promising” candidate.
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez entered his name as a Republican candidate in June after his pro-crypto policies for the city became popular. He was a big part of the MiamiCoin token project for city residents and also declared he would accept certain paychecks in BTC. In an August 18 X post, Suarez said he had qualified to attend the debate, which Republican officials contradicted after they announced the participant list without his name appearing.
