Two brothers face multiple charges after a violent attack that took place this month
Federal prosecutors have charged two brothers from Texas in a violent kidnapping scheme that targeted a Minnesota family and resulted in the theft of $8 million in cryptocurrency. Authorities said Raymond Christian Garcia, 23, and Isiah Angelo Garcia, 24, stormed the family’s home while armed with an AR-15-style rifle and a shotgun, holding the victims hostage for nearly nine hours.
The incident began on the morning of September 19, when one of the victims stepped outside to take out the trash. Prosecutors said the brothers confronted him, zip-tied his hands, and forced their way into the home. Once inside, they allegedly woke the man’s wife and adult son at gunpoint before restraining them as well.
According to court filings, the Garcias coordinated with an unidentified third suspect who appeared to provide them with details about cryptocurrency accounts and potential transfers. Isiah Garcia allegedly forced the father to drive three hours to a family cabin, where he was compelled to hand over a crypto wallet containing additional funds.
Meanwhile, prosecutors said Raymond Garcia remained behind to watch over the wife and son. During a brief moment when he left the room, the son managed to call 911. The emergency call sparked a large police response that included nearby schools canceling a homecoming football game out of caution.
Investigators later linked the brothers to the crime using a Wendy’s receipt discovered in a suitcase with a disassembled rifle. Surveillance footage from a Minnesota motel further tied them to the area. Both men were arrested three days later in Waller, Texas.
The brothers face federal kidnapping charges, along with state-level counts of armed kidnapping, robbery, and burglary. Prosecutors say the investigation remains active as authorities continue to seek the identification of the third suspect involved in the operation.
